There has been a beautiful alchemy between Biarritz and the sport of surfing for 60 years. Indeed, it was in 1957 while shooting a film that American screenwriter Peter Viertel introduced the people of Biarritz to the sport of the Hawaiian kings. The sport quickly found fans, among them Joël de Rosnay, and became so popular that a Surfing Sports Studies department quickly opened in one of the schools in the seaside resort.
The passion for surfing in Biarritz remains just as strong today – and with just cause: from the Grande Plage to Ilbarritz, the shores of the area are a veritable treasure trove of surfing spots, each with its own unique characteristics and all equally pleasant. This variety attracts surfers from all over the world, who find that the facilities in this town, labelled a "2-star surfing town", absolutely live up to their expectations. In addition, a number of schools located close to our aparthotel offer classes and courses for both beginners and more seasoned students in surfing, of course, but also in bodyboarding, longboarding and stand up paddling.
